Bericht vom letzten Tag der 10 Rater Weltmeisterschaft
The final day of the ISAF-RSD 10Rater WC dawned with overcast skies and very light westerly winds; Phil Playle, lying second overall, scooted round the triangle and sausage course, lapped several boats and caused 7 of the A heat to be out of time; this sent Cameron Clarke (AUS) to B fleet. Cameron, who had earlier dunked his transmitter in the sea water, was not amused. In the next A heat (no 39), Mark Dennis, with his Paradox Marblehead hull rigged as a 10 rater, romped away from the others, leaving 3 boats out of time. One of these was the unfortunate Janusz Walicki who thus went to B heat.
After the lunch break, the wind filled in from the east. a new course was laid, and the wind promptly went south off the bank; Phil Playle won A heat by a boats length from John Cleave with Mark Dennis third and Graham Bantock fourth. The last race was no 41 and again Phil Playle and John Cleave led the fleet round the course to finish in front from Alan Robinson (AUS), Mark Dennis and Graham Bantock.
So Graham and Phil sailing sister ships won by a substantial margin from Mark Dennis sailing yet another Bantock design. All these three from one club, Chelmsford Radio Yacht Club in Essex England.
The Changi Sailing Club and The Singapore Yachting Association are to be congratulated on putting on a fine event and I am sure that all competitors will join me in thanking them for their magnificent and continuous hospitality.
John Cleave
